HADRAMOUT, Aug. 02 (YPA) – Forces of the “First Military Region” loyal to the Islah party in the center of Seiyun, Hadramout province, have opened fire on Protesters calling for improvements in basic services and living conditions.
On Friday, activists on social media shared a video capturing the moment when heavy gunfire was unleashed on the protesters, who have been demonstrating for the fifth consecutive day in the heart of the city
The video showed participants fleeing the protests, which demand that the Saudi-led coalition-backed government improve electricity services, provide water, and stop the plundering of Hadramout’s resources
This crackdown comes just one day after a protester was killed by gunfire from security forces loyal to the Saudi-led coalition in the city of Tarim on Thursday morning.
“Additional injuries were reported during protests in Mukalla, Al-Shihr, and Ghayl Ba Wazir since last week, when UAE-funded armed factions opened fire on demonstrators.”
Hadramout youth have vowed to continue their uprising, demanding an end to the exploitation of the province’s natural resources by coalition-backed forces and an end to the ongoing policies of systemic starvation.
Since the start of the protests in Mukalla and other areas in Hadramout, the value of the Saudi Riyal has dropped significantly, from 750 to nearly 500 Yemeni Riyals in just five days.
