LONDON, July 27 (YPA) – British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said on Sunday that the Israeli occupation’s announcement of a humanitarian truce in parts of the Gaza Strip was long overdue.
He stressed the urgent need to expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip.
Lammy added in a statement that this announcement was not enough on its own to alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza.
“We need a ceasefire that ends the war, leads to the release of prisoners, and allows aid into Gaza unhindered by land,” he added. “The need to fully implement these measures and remove any further obstacles to aid.”
The British Foreign Secretary warned that humanitarian suffering in Gaza had reached unprecedented levels.
For his part, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held another phone call with the occupation’s Prime Minister Netanyahu, during which they stressed the need to improve the humanitarian situation in the besieged Palestinian Gaza Strip.
According to the German News Agency, German government spokesman Stefan Cornelius said on Sunday that Merz expressed his deep concern about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and called on Netanyahu to do everything in his power to achieve an immediate ceasefire.
