UAE’s company imposes new price dose on cooking gas in Socotra

SOCOTRA, July 27 (YPA) – The UAE-owned Eastern Triangle Holding Company has imposed a price increase on gasoline and cooking gas for citizens on the Socotra Archipelago of Yemen.

A local source in the archipelago said that the Emirati company, which monopolizes on the sale of petroleum products and cooking gas, had set the retail price of a 20-liter gallon of gasoline at 54,000 riyals, which equals $224.11.

He added that the price of a small gas cylinder has reached more than 34,000 riyals, or $141.11, while the price of a large gas cylinder has exceeded 68,000 riyals, or $282.22.

This followed a similar price dose was imposed by the company on gasoline and cooking gas in early July, after it took over sales duties from the Emirati company ADNOC, whose reputation in Yemen’s Socotra had been damaged.

This increase in the suffering of citizens has led them to cut down firewood, a trend that threatens plant and environmental diversity, threatening also the rare trees in the Socotra Archipelago Nature Reserve.
