ABYAN, July 10 (YPA) – A senior leader in the Saudi-funded “Dera al-Watan or Homeland Shield” factions survived to an assassination attempt on Thursday, east of Lawdar district of Abyan province, south of Yemen.
Local source familiar with the matter said the so-called “Chief of Staff of the Fourth Brigade of the Third Division of the Dera al-Watan factions, Ahmed Mohammed Al-Amiri, was targeted with an armed ambush in Wadi Azzan, east of Lawdar.
This comes after the deployment of these factions in the central districts, including Lawdar, amidst rejection from the leaders of the pro-UAE factions in Abyan.
The leaders of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions in Abyan accused Saudi Arabia of supporting and financing terrorist elements deployed in Mudiyah district of the province.
