Brazilian President condemns Trump’s tariff threats against BRICS

WORLD, July 09 (YPA) -Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Tuesday condemned threats by US President Donald Trump to impose tariffs on BRICS member states or countries that express support for the group’s policies.

During a joint press conference with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi—broadcast by the Brazilian government on social media—Lula said, “We will not accept any complaints about the BRICS summit. We do not agree with the US president insinuating he’s going to put tariffs on BRICS countries.”

Lula emphasized that BRICS is composed of nations striving for peace, development, and the reduction of global inequalities.

“We do not want wars. We do not seek confrontation. We want our countries to achieve progress and sustainable development,” he said.

Earlier, Donald Trump had announced plans to impose an additional 10% tariff on countries supporting BRICS policies, which he described as hostile to the interests of the United States.
