Saudi Arabia is strangling Mahra people to advance its suspicious agenda

MAHRA, July 07 (YPA) – Mahra province, controlled by pro-Saudi factions in eastern Yemen, has entered a state of complete paralysis amid an unprecedented fuel crisis in all districts of the province bordering the Sultanate of Oman.

A local source reported on Sunday that the province has been experiencing a severe fuel crisis since last week, amid accusations that pro-Saudi leaders are behind the crisis to advance agendas for the governorate’s local authority.

The source explained that citizens’ cars are waiting in long queues at petrol and diesel stations in the center of Al-Ghaydah city, the provincial capital, without any real action by the local authorities to find solutions to alleviate the crisis.

The fuel crisis coincided with the collapse of various services in Mahra’s districts, most notably electricity and water, and the closure of the Nishton Port on the Arabian Sea by Saudi-backed leaders.

The source accused the Saudi-backed leaders of implementing a policy of mass torture against the province people for their opposition to the presence of the Saudi-funded “Dera Al-Watan” factions and their demands for the withdrawal of foreign forces from the Al-Ghaydah civilian airport, which has been occupied since 2017.

Saudi forces imposed their control over Mahra, which is more than 2,000 km from the frontline with Sanaa forces, during 2017. They closed Al-Ghaydah Airport to civilian flights and converted it into a military base for US and British forces on the Arabian Sea.

Saudi oil pipeline extending through Yemeni territory in Mahra

Saudi Arabia seeks to implement its prior agendas in Mahra by extending an oil pipeline from the Al-Kharkhir area within its territory, through Yemeni territory, and into the Arabian Sea. This is despite the objections of the tribes in Mahra, who removed the concrete markers that marked the pipeline’s route in the Tuf Shihr and Dhahiyeh areas at the end of 2017.

On the other hand, the Saudi-led coalition countries, particularly Saudi Arabia and the UAE, have transformed Aden and the eastern provinces of Yemen into an open-air prison, employing a policy of starvation and systematically undermining services to support their various interests.

All this is happening amid escalating popular demonstrations demanding the expulsion of the coalition and the elimination of its loyal government in Aden.

The coalition-backed government appears unable to implement any reform measures to halt the accelerating economic decline that has led to the collapse of the local currency and the loss of its purchasing power. This government has also failed to alleviate the burdens on citizens or provide the fuel needed to operate power plants in Aden and other provinces, in addition to the ongoing salary crisis for the second consecutive month.
