Zionist occupation forces assassinate director of Indonesian hospital in Gaza

GAZA, July 02 (YPA) – Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan, director of the Indonesian Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, was martyred Wednesday morning, as a result of an Israeli airstrike that targeted his home west of Gaza City, which also resulted in the deaths of several members of his family.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced the martyrdom of Al-Sultan in an official statement, considering the incident a “new heinous crime” added to the record of ongoing Israeli violations against medical and humanitarian personnel since the beginning of the aggression on the Strip.

The statement explained that the targeting took place near the junction of Street 17 west of Gaza, and resulted in casualties among the doctor’s family, stressing that targeting medical personnel represents “a systematic insistence on direct and deliberate killing and reflects the bloody tendency pursued by the occupation forces.”

The ministry mourned the deceased, describing him as “a symbol of dedication, steadfastness, and loyalty,” noting that he was one of the pillars of health work in the northern Gaza Strip and played a pivotal role in managing the Indonesian Hospital, which provided a lifeline for thousands of wounded during successive waves of escalation.

This crime comes within the context of the ongoing campaign targeting the health sector in Gaza, amid a near-total collapse of the health system due to the destruction of hospitals, the displacement and assassination of medical personnel, and the prevention of the entry of medical supplies, in a flagrant violation of the provisions of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which guarantee protection for medical personnel in conflict zones.
