ADEN, June 26 (YPA) – Sharp disagreements erupted between Rashad Al-Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, and Salem bin Brik, Prime Minster of government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, inside the Ma’ashiq Palace in Aden, Pro-coalition media sources reported on Thursday.
According to the sources, the conflict between Al-Alimi and Bin Brik erupted over the appointment to the Minister of Finance portfolio
The sources indicated that Al-Alimi abandoned Hussam Al-Sharjabi to try to impose Ahmed Al-Ma’abqi, who currently serves as Director of the Central Bank of Aden, as Minister of Finance, amid the Prime Minister’s rejection of Al-Ma’abqi due to previous disagreements between them
They added that the Prime Minister, a former Finance Minister affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), shouted at Al-Alimi, rejecting the decision to appoint Al-Ma’abqi unilaterally without the consent of all eight members of the Leadership Council.
The sources further stated that the pro-coalition government’s Prime Minister threatened to travel to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to submit his resignation if Al-Alimi attempted to impose a finance minister without consensus among the other members.
