WORLD, June 23 (YPA) – Senator Bernie Sanders accused the administration of US President Donald Trump of lying to the American public in its justification for the strikes on Iran.
Bernie Sanders wrote in a statement that in the 1960s, the US government lied to the American people and dragged us into a horrific war in Vietnam.”
He added, “The US government told Americans that it had to invade Iraq in 2002 because of weapons of mass destruction. The American people were lied to about Iraq, and the consequences were disastrous.”
Sanders continued: “Once again, the American people are being misled. We must not let history repeat itself. Our country is grappling with serious challenges at home, and those must be our priority.”
He concluded by saying We cannot allow ourselves to be dragged into another war in the Middle East based on lies.”
This comes after the US military intervened in the conflict between Iran and ” Israel”, striking three Iranian nuclear sites at dawn on Sunday. President Trump announced that:
“The three Iranian nuclear facilities have been completely destroyed.”
Later in the evening, Trump claimed that the operation prevented Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb, which it would have used if it had succeeded in acquiring it.
Meanwhile, Tehran has repeatedly affirmed that it is using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
