ADEN, June 17 (YPA) – The Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the coalition-controlled areas of Taiz province announced on Monday that it would dispense with the port of Aden and establish a new shipping route to transport goods to and from various ports.
The Chamber confirmed in a circular to all importers and exporters that the new shipping line to the port of Mocha is in accordance with understandings with authorities affiliated with the UAE-backed leader Tariq Saleh, a nephew of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, at the port of Mocha, west of Taiz.
Economic observers believe that the Taiz-run Chamber of Commerce’s move came at the behest of Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council’s member Tariq Saleh, seeking financial resources following the coalition-backed government’s failure to take any measures to mitigate the economic collapse.
They explained that importing through the Mocha port would be a severe economic blow to the port of Aden, which would be limited to certain imports, depriving Aden of a significant portion of its revenues.
