Jordan, NATO agree to open diplomatic liaison office

BRUSSELS, June 14 (YPA) – NATO had announced the signing of an agreement with Jordan to establish the alliance’s first diplomatic liaison office in the Middle East.

In a statement, the NATO and Jordan signed the agreement last Thursday in the Belgian capital, Brussels.

The statement explained that the agreement was made between the Jordanian ambassador to NATO, Yousef Bataineh, and the alliance by Special Representative for the Southern Neighborhood, Javier Colomina.

The decision to open NATO’s first diplomatic office in the Middle East was announced during the alliance’s summit in Washington, D.C., in July 2024.

The decision reflected the Allied leaders’ goal of strengthening NATO’s approach to its Southern Neighborhood and increasing the alliance’s presence in the region.

The office is scheduled to open shortly after the signing of the agreement.
