ADEN, June 02 (YPA) – Fadl al-Jaa’di, a member of the presidency of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), confirmed on Monday that the situation in Aden city and other southern regions under Saudi-led coalition control portends a widespread social explosion.
Al-Jaa’di pointed to the coalition-backed government’s failure to fulfill its basic duties toward citizens and its preoccupation with conflicts and narrow interests, leaving citizens alone to face the high cost of living, rising prices, unemployment, and the lack of the basic necessities for a decent life.
He explained that the shameful spread of corruption and favoritism makes it difficult to achieve stability or address the situation, adding that citizens cannot be blamed for taking multiple options to express their protest, including what he described as a “revolution,” a clear reference to the call to expel Leadership Council President Rashad al-Alimi, who returned to Maa’shiq Palace in Aden yesterday.
In a post on the “X” platform, Al-Jaa’di commended the women’s movement in Aden demanding improved electricity and water services and their firm rejection of the unprecedented deterioration in living conditions and services resulting from the devaluation of the local currency.
He mentioned that widespread poverty and destitution have engulfed the majority of the population, showing that the protests signify how citizens have reached the brink of their tolerance, unable to bear the hunger and intense heat any longer, and voicing their grievances against the silence and neglect.
Al-Jaa’di linked the worsening living conditions and lack of services in Aden and other southern provinces to the responsible authorities’ failure to fulfill their duties, leaving people to endure the hardships of this difficult period.
He urged Salem bin Burik, the head of the pro-coalition government appointed in Riyadh earlier in May, to take urgent action to alleviate the people’s suffering from hunger and inadequate services, emphasizing the need for implementing reforms that address citizens’ needs and ensure a dignified life for them.
