KHARTOUM, May 21(YPA) – The Sudanese army on Tuesday announced it had seized the last strongholds of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in western and southern Omdurman, declaring Khartoum liberated.
“Today our forces, with all their components participating in the war of national dignity, have continued to fulfill their sacred duty in fighting the thugs of aggression and oppression of the criminals of the Al-Daglo militia, and their evil supporters and backers of local, regional, and international forces. They are achieving victories day after day with unwavering determination and will, thanks to Allah’s Grace and the support and solidarity of our noble people,” Sundn’s army said in a statement.
“In this context, we announce today the complete liberation of the entire state of Khartoum from any presence of terrorist elements of the Al-Dagalo militia, and the cleansing of our national capital from the filth of the rebels and their supporters. We affirm that “Khartoum state is completely free of rebels, the statement read.
The Sudanese army also pledged to continue its efforts until every inch of the country is liberated of every rebel, traitor, and agent.
Sudan plunged into civil war on April 15, 2023, when simmering tensions between the military and the RSF exploded into open warfare in Khartoum and other parts of the country. The war has killed at least 24,000 people, though the number is likely far higher.
The war has driven about 13 million people from their homes, including 4 million who crossed into neighboring countries. Parts of Sudan have been pushed into famine.
