Denmark to summon US ambassador over Greenland espionage report

WORLD, May 08 (YPA) – Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said on Wednesday that he will summon the United States ambassador to Denmark for a meeting following media reports suggesting that Washington plans to intensify espionage activities targeting Greenland.

“I have read the article in the Wall Street Journal and it worries me greatly because we do not spy on friends,” Rasmussen told reporters during an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Warsaw.

“This is very serious, so we will summon the ambassador for a meeting at the foreign ministry.”

The US is stepping up its intelligence-gathering efforts regarding Greenland, drawing America’s spying apparatus into President Donald Trump’s campaign to take over the island, the Wall Street Journal reported, on Tuesday, citing two anonymous sources.

The move appears linked to the Trump administration’s broader efforts to expand US influence over Greenland, underscoring Washington’s strategic interest in the Arctic region.
