SANAA, May 03 (YPA) – Sanaa-based Foreign Minister Jamal Amer met on Saturday with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation, Christine Cipolla.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister listened to an explanation of the results of the visit of the ICRC delegation to Saada province, north of Yemen, and discussed the repercussions of the war crime that the US administration committed in targeting a shelter for illegal immigrants.
Mr. Amer commended the rapid response of the ICRC mission, which provided urgent medical assistance amidst the complete absence of the United Nations due to the unfair decision of the UN Secretary-General to suspend humanitarian work in Saada.
He pointed to the history of the ICRC independence and neutrality, which operates free from political pressure in all countries of the world, praising the role of the delegation in Yemen and its work with complete neutrality and independence from any political decisions, such as the US designation and the barbaric military aggression that deliberately and intentionally targets civilian objects and civilians.
For her part, the ICRC’s head affirmed the delegation’s commitment to fulfilling its humanitarian responsibilities with complete neutrality and independence from any political decision.
Cipolla added that the ICRC’s headquarters in Geneva considered the UN Secretary-General’s decision to suspend humanitarian work in Saada a political one, while affirming the continued presence of the mission in Yemen to provide humanitarian assistance.
