Israeli occupation to demolish over100 homes in Tulkarm, Nour shams refugee camps

WEST BANK, May 02 (YPA) – Israeli occupation forces have issued demolition orders for 106 homes and buildings in the Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps, north of the occupied West Bank, with a 24-hour deadline for residents to evacuate their properties, according to official Palestinian sources.

The Israeli army, in a decision signed by the commander of the occupation forces in the West Bank, Avi Bluth, stated that the demolitions are “purely for military purposes.” Given the location of the targeted homes, it appears the objective is to create pathways through the camps.

According to Reuters, the decision specifies that the demolition of homes “will be carried out within 24 hours of the order being signed” on Thursday.

In response, the popular committees, institutions, and civil society groups from the Tulkarm and Nour Shams refugee camps issued urgent appeals to the international community.

In a joint statement, Civil society organizations in both camps issued urgent appeals to the United Nations, the UN Security Council, and international human rights bodies to take immediate action.

They condemned the planned demolitions, describing them as part of a systematic policy of forced displacement, collective punishment, and violations of international humanitarian law.

Abdullah Kmeil, the Governor of Tulkarm, confirmed that the orders target 58 buildings in Tulkarm refugee camp and 48 homes in Nour Shams camp. Residents have been given just 24 hours to remove their belongings.

Kmeil described the intended demolitions as an unprecedented crime against the people of Tulkarm and its refugee camps, renewing his call on the international community and human rights organizations to intervene immediately and stop the mass demolitions, displacement, and destruction inflicted by the Israeli occupation.
