LAHJ, May 01 (YPA) – Large-scale popular protests erupted on Thursday in the city of Al-Hawtah in Lahj province due to the severe deterioration of basic services, particularly the electricity outage crisis and the rapid collapse of the local currency.
The intensity of the protests escalated after the demonstrators blocked the public road, leading to complete traffic paralysis, while demanding urgent action from the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition to address the economic collapse and improve vital services, most notably electricity, water, and health care.
The popular movements came as part of a growing wave of protests in Aden and Abyan due to deteriorating living conditions and the ongoing collapse of the Yemeni riyal. These protests have raised concerns about serious repercussions if popular demands continue to be ignored.
