Poet killed in Marib after being tortured inside Islah prisons

MARIB, Feb, 04 (YPA) – A poet was killed on Tuesday after being tortured in one of the prisons of the coalition-backed Islah Party authorities in the city of Marib, amid a wave of popular anger among the Yemeni people.

Human rights sources reported that Rashid Al-Hatam, one of the poets of the Qifa tribe in Bayda province, died 20 days after he was kidnapped because he posted a video on Facebook in which he chanted “Death to America and Israel” in celebration of the announcement of the ceasefire in Gaza Strip.

Activists on social media described the incident of Al-Hatam’s death inside the prison as a “horrific crime,” stressing that the incident revealed the criminal face of those kidnapped and forcibly disappeared inside the Islah prisons in Marib.

They stressed that the crime highlighted the gross violations that detainees and forcibly disappeared persons suffered in the coalition-run secret prisons and detention centers.

Local human rights activists demanded an urgent investigation into the murder of the poet Al-Hatam and other torture crimes that the coalition-affiliated factions’ committed against the kidnapped and forcibly disappeared in prisons and secret detention centers in Marib, Aden and other areas where coalition is taking over.
