CAIRO, Jan. 31 (YPA) – Hundreds of Egyptians staged a protest rally in in front of the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip in solidarity with the Palestinians and rejection of plans to displace them.
Activists on social media circulated photos and video clips showing the large numbers of protesters heading to the Rafah crossing, in a move described as an expression of widespread popular rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians or infringe on their legitimate rights.
On Thursday, the protesters organized these events in several provinces in Egypt, raising the flags of Egypt and Palestine, and chanting slogans against the displacement of Palestinians, before heading to the Rafah crossing.
This was the first popular protest since US President Donald Trump first proposed on January 25 to transfer Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Jordan, citing the “lack of habitable places in the Gaza Strip,” which Israeli occupation has been destroying for more than 15 months.
The protests were held in several provinces, including Beheira, Kafr El-Sheikh, Gharbia, Port Said, Ismailia, Sharqia, Qalyubia, north of the capital, Cairo, and Beni Suef.
