Pictures reveal UAE’s military activities on Yemen’s Mayon Island

SANAA, Jan. 06 (YPA) – Satellite images obtained by the Yemeni Press Agency have showed the UAE’s recent military activities on Mayon Island, located in the Bab al-Mandab Strait at the southern entrance to the Red Sea.

The images confirm that the UAE resumed construction and operations on the island in May of last year, continuing its transformation of the location into a military base, a process that began in 2021.

These images also revealed the presence of an unfinished airstrip, watchtowers lining the perimeter of a sand barrier, several building clusters, and a military vehicle positioned to guard the UAE’s developments on the island.

Additionally, the photos showcase excavation equipment operating on the runway, along with an overview highlighting the differences in infrastructure between 2023 and 2024.
