Mikati: We are determined to commemorate Independence Day

BEIRUT, Nov. 22 (YPA) – Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, confirmed on Thursday that the Lebanese people are determined to commemorate their Independence Day despite all circumstances, due to their belief in the values of freedom, sovereignty, and national unity it represents.

On the occasion of the 81st anniversary of Lebanon’s independence, Mikati said that the Lebanese army is “preparing to strengthen its military presence in the south.”

He added, ” “The army is offering sacrifices with the lives of its officers and personnel in defense of the homeland, its sovereignty and independence.”

It is worth noting that Mikati’s statement comes amid international efforts to achieve a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, implement UN Resolution 1701, and support the Lebanese Armed Forces.

The resolution, which concluded the 2006 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, mandates the deployment of the Lebanese army and international peacekeeping forces, with no other forces allowed along the southern border.
