UNIFIL: “Israel” informed us of its intention to carry out limited incursion into Lebanon

BEIRUT, Oct. 05 (YPA) – The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) confirmed that Israeli occupation forces have informed them of their intention to make a ground incursion into Lebanon, emphasizing the need for implementing Resolution 1701 as the only solution for stability restoration.

UNIFIL official spokesman Andrea Tenenti said, “The Israeli army informed UNIFIL on September 30 of its intention to carry out limited ground incursions into Lebanon and also asked us to move some of our positions.”

He added, “Peacekeepers remain in all locations… We have emergency plans ready to activate if necessary. The safety and security of peacekeepers is paramount, and we remind all parties of their obligation to respect this.”

The Resolution 1701, issued by the UN Security Council on August 11, 2006, aimed to end the war between “Israel” and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon after 34 days of conflict through a long-term solution based on respect for the Blue Line and ensure that no violations occur by both parties.
