Pro-coalition security forces suppress protest in Taiz over illegal water well drilling

TAIZ, Sept. 22 (YPA) – Security forces affiliated with Saudi-led coalition in Taiz suppressed citizens and arrested them in the “Al-Ayfū'” area of Al-Mawasit district in southern Taiz.

A local source revealed that the “Special Security” forces, led by Jamil Aqlan, clashed with citizens protesting the unlawful arrival of a water well drilling rig meant to create a deep well for a powerful trader, which posed a threat to their water supply.

The source indicated that military vehicles from the special forces enabled the influential trader to drill the illegal well by force, before launching a campaign of arrests against citizens and youth who attempted to stop the drilling process.

Residents reportedly appealed to Al-Ailimi, due to the area’s closeness to his hometown, along with local authorities in Taiz and other relevant agencies, asking them to stop the illegal drilling. Unfortunately, their requests went unaddressed.
