Lebanese FM: We receive international assurances regarding the upcoming escalation between Israel and Hezbollah

BEIRUT, July 29 (YPA) – Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib stated that Lebanon received international assurances from the concerned countries that an Israeli strike in response to a rocket attack in the Druze town of Majdal Shams will be “limited,” as will the response from Hezbollah.

In a television interview, Bou Habib said, “We have received assurances from countries concerned with the issue, and it is certain that the United States and France are very involved in this matter.”

He added that Hezbollah’s response to the Israeli escalation would also be limited.

On Sunday, the Hebrew newspaper “Haaretz” reported of western efforts to prevent Israel from targeting Beirut or major Lebanese cities in response to the Majdal Shams incident.

Diplomatic sources told the newspaper that the threat of a large-scale war depends on Hezbollah’s reaction to the Israeli strike in Lebanon.

They added that the United States and France are trying to prevent Israel from targeting Beirut or other major cities.

Meanwhile, Israeli Army Radio reported that the military leadership had presented several different scenarios for the expected attack on Lebanon.

The radio cited Israeli government officials as saying that Israel is preparing to deliver a “painful blow” to Hezbollah while trying to “avoid being drawn into a large-scale regional war.”

Tensions between Hezbollah and the Israeli army escalated on Sunday following the Majdal Shams incident, where 12 children were killed when a rocket struck a soccer field they were attending in the town, and 40 others were injured.

Israel accused Hezbollah of launching the rocket and vowed retaliation, while Hezbollah denied any involvement in the incident.
