One killed in Shabwa clashes

SHABWA, July 07 (YPA) – A person was killed on Sunday, in armed clashes in the center of Ataq city, the capital of Shabwa governorate, which is under the control of factions loyal to the UAE.

Local sources reported that disputes between armed youths from Al-Jaafah and Salamah, belonging to the Al-Ateeq tribe in Al-Thalatheen area, escalated into armed confrontations, resulting in the death of Hamad Salamah Al-Ateeqi during the exchange of gunfire.

The sources did not mention the reasons behind the gunfire exchange, which is part of the security chaos plaguing the districts of Shabwa.

Last week, Dr. Salem Mohsen Bin Saeed Al-Khalifi was killed by gunfire from “Shabwah Defense” factions funded by the UAE at the eastern entrance of Ataq city after he passed through one of the checkpoints on his motorcycle following his work at Shabwa General Hospital.

It is worth noting that the UAE is fueling conflict among Shabwa tribes by supporting and financing tribes loyal to it with money and weapons against tribes loyal to Saudi Arabia, accusing them of allegiance to the Islah Party.

Clashes broke out last week between several Shabwa tribes in the districts of Haban, Al-Saeed, Usyilan, Markha, and Ataq, resulting in casualties and injuries amid the absence of state authorities since early 2016.
