The Iranian constitution and vacancy in the office of President

TEHRAN, May 20 (YPA) – The Iranian constitution clearly outlines the procedures for dealing with any emergency resulting from a vacancy in the presidency.

According to the Iranian Constitution, Article 131 of the Iranian constitution stipulates that the first vice president assumes the role of acting president in case the Iranian president dies.

Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber will be in charge of the cabinet of ministers, at the discretion of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, before the election of a new president.

The Constitution stipulates that a council consisting of the Parliament speaker, the Judiciary chief, and the first vice president should be formed and make arrangements for the election of a new president within 50 days.
