LAHJ, Jan. 28 (YPA) – Federation of Workers’ Union in the province of Lahij has confirmed continuation of a strike in all schools and various sectors until the government loyal to Saudi-led coalition meets their demands.
Abdulnour Said Saif Hazem, deputy head of the union in the province, stated that the strike will only be lifted upon the payment of salaries for December and January by the pro-coalition government with a commitment to regular and timely payments at the end of each month.
In a press statement, he urged employees to persist in their strike until an announcement is made by the union in the province, explaining that the union is working on formulating demands and working towards their realization.
It’s worth noting that the pro-coalition government has failed to pay salaries to teachers and other sectors in most areas under its control, while revenues continue to be misappropriated and transferred to officials located in Riyadh and other countries.
Last Monday, the union declared a comprehensive strike and staged a protest in front of the pro-coalition authorities’ headquarters in the city of Al-Houta, condemning the collapse of electricity services and the deterioration of the local currency against foreign currencies. These issues have a negative impact on the citizens’ living conditions.
