Sanaa calls for urgent UN General Assembly meeting to halt genocide in Gaza
SANAA, Oct. 12 (YPA) –The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sanaa has submitted a memorandum to the UN General Assembly and its member states concerning the perilous situation and genocidal acts committed by Zionist occupation forces against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The memorandum condemned the war crimes perpetrated by the Zionist adversary against civilians in the Gaza Strip, which are subject to international law, including the blockade of food and drinking water, as well as the cessation of electricity supply to the civilian population in the Strip.
Yemen called for immediate action in addressing this critical and urgent situation that jeopardizes the lives of millions of Palestinians residing in the Gaza Strip. It requests the convening of an emergency session of the UN General Assembly in accordance with Resolution No. 377 of November 3, 1950, titled “United for Peace.”
The memorandum cited the aforementioned UN resolution, which empowers the General Assembly to convene an “emergency special session,” especially in light of the Security Council’s apparent inability to fulfill its responsibilities, given the reluctance of some of its permanent members to denounce Zionist crimes.
The document underscored that these parties, instead of working to halt the bloodshed, have chosen to provide military and material support to the Zionist adversary in its assault on the Gaza Strip. They have dispatched battleships and aircraft carriers, posing a direct threat to regional security and the safety of the region, while attempting to demonstrate their capacity to harm the Palestinian people, whose lands have been occupied and whose rights have been systematically violated.
The memorandum concluded by stressing the importance of the UN General Assembly placing the issue on the agenda as both a humanitarian and political priority and swiftly convening an emergency meeting to safeguard the Palestinian people, thereby preventing the situation from escalating into a regional conflict that could engulf the Zionist entity and its allies, imperiling their interests.
