VIENNA, July 7 (YPA) – The Austrian federal government has agreed to make one million Euro in aid from the Foreign Disaster Relief Fund to Yemen to ease the suffering of civilians.
“The conflict in Yemen has led to the worst state of emergency in the world,” said Karin Kneissl, minister for integration and foreign affairs of Austria, in a press statement.
She noted that the conflict in Yemen since March 2015 has not received the attention it deserves, at both humanitarian and political leves.
“Over 11 million people are living in severe distress and nearly one million children under the age of five suffer from malnutrition,” Kneissl added.
The one million Euros will be handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which will spend it in cooperation with the Yemeni Red Crescent to provide health care, food aid and drinking water, as well as to support displaced people through cash-for-work programs.
