WORLD, Sept. 14 (YPA) – US President Joe Biden said that the Republican Party has launched an impeachment inquiry as it seeks to suspend the country’s government due to the inability to agree on a budget for the new fiscal year.
In a speech at a campaign event in Virginia on Wednesday, Biden said: “I don’t know quite why, but they just knew they wanted to impeach me.”
“Now, the best I can tell, they want to impeach me because they want to shut down the government.”
Mr Biden said he did not focus on the impeachment inquiry.
“I get up every day, not a joke, not focused on impeachment. I’ve got a job to do,” he said.
The White House has asked members of Congress to take the lead on a short-term extension of government funding to avoid a possible suspension of some federal agencies.
Shalanda Young, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, said at the end of August that the initiative would give lawmakers the necessary time to compromise on budget issues.
