Al-Qaeda leader killed in Abyan after STC armed attack

ABYAN, Aug 10 (YPA) – One of al-Qaeda leader was killed on Thursday in an armed attack of the UAE-funded Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias in Abyan province, south of Yemen.

Media sources in the STC reported that the so-called “al Qaeda emir, who did not mention his name, was killed in a siege operation imposed by the STC factions in Wadi al-Jin area of the district.

The sources affirmed that the operation came to respond in killing of the STC’s leader, Abdul Latif al-Sayed who was killed in an explosive device in Mudiyah district of the province, amid accusations that he was liquidated by Saudi-backed parties.

The sources indicated that about 13 individuals accused of belonging to al-Qaeda were arrested during the operation, noting that a number of elements and leaders had fled towards Shabwa.
