STC’s crackdown on Journalists in Aden sparks discontent

ِADEN, June 13 (YPA) -A directive issued by the so-called “National Authority for Southern Media” affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) regarding journalistic activity in Aden has sparked widespread discontent in media and press institutions.

A number of media and press institutions claimed that the order prevents professionalism, restricts journalistic work, and targets press freedom in a way that flagrantly violates the law.

It is worthy nothing that the directive will “oblige all media institutions, organizations, and local and international bodies to give the people of Aden affiliated with STC priority in employment”

Last March, the STC established a new entity for southern journalists, in a move that many Yemeni journalists considered part of the UAE-backed secession process.

It is noteworthy that the Saudi-led coalition factions, led by the STC, have already taken arbitrary measures against journalists, including murder and arrest, amid the shameful silence of the Journalists Syndicate in Aden
