Pro-coalition minister survives assassination attempt in Aden
ADEN, Feb. 26 (YPA) – The leading member of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), Ahmed Lamlas, survived on Sunday an assassination attempt in central Aden, southern Yemen.
Informed sources in the city confirmed that Lamlas, who is occupying a position as minister and governor of Aden province in the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, was subjected to heavy gunfire while his convoy was passing near Al-Ful roundabout in Crater area.
No human losses were reported as a result of the shooting.
The sources pointed out that armed members of the group accompanying Lamlas, who is from Shabwa province, closed the entrances to the area, indicating that the attackers fled to an unknown destination, without revealing who was behind the attack.
This assassination attempt on Lamlas happened after the commander of the so-called “anti-terrorism forces,” Shalal Shaye, threatened him last week with physical liquidation.
Lamlas was the subject of a botched assassination attempt in October 2021, when a car bomb exploded in the Hajif section of Al-Tawahi district, killing and injuring six people, including members of his security detail.
