Pro-coalition military commander survives assassination in Marib
MARIB, Dec. 25 (YPA) – A military commander, affiliated with Islah Party loyal to Saudi-led coalition, on Saturday survived an assassination attempt in the center of Marib city, which is controlled by the coalition forces.
Local sources in Marib reported that gunmen tried to assassinate Brigadier General Hani Abu Bakr Basalamah, commander of the so-called “Al-Siddiq Brigade”, affiliated with Islah party and former commander of “Al-Boqa’ Axis”, at a restaurant in the city center.
The sources explained that a number of gunmen caused a quarrel with Basalamah, after which they attempted to stab him, before his escorts confronted them.
Basalamah was injured in the hand, before the gunmen retreated outside the restaurant and started firing from their automatic rifles at the restaurant and those inside, according to the sources.
The sources added that the gunmen left in two cars, without anyone being able to know the direction to which they disappeared in the city center of Marib.
This comes within the growth of assassinations that the Islah party leaders face and carried out by the UAE-backed factions in Marib city, according to statements by leaders and activists affiliated with the party.
