Khartoum receives UN official with ‘Million Man March’

KHARTOUM, Nov. 13 (YPA) – The new United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, will begin his foreign visits by arriving in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Sunday, for a three-day official visit.

Turk’s visit to Sudan is the first official visit of its kind to any country in the world since he assumed his position as Commissioner for Human Rights. The visit will last from November 13 to the 16th of November.

The visit coincides with new a “Million Man March” on Sunday, November 13, 2022 to be held in the city of Omdurman,

According to the Sudanese Resistance Committee, the participants will raise the slogan “No partnership, No negotiation, No legitimacy”.

The resistance committees stressed that the demonstrations would come out as an expression of rejection of the expected political settlement, which they said would take place inside closed rooms, and indicated their intention to overthrow the current regime through peaceful struggle.

Regarding the visit of the UN envoy, he will also meet with representatives of the National Human Rights Commission and civil society institutions, including women and youth groups, as well as representatives of United Nations agencies and regional organizations.
