ABYAN, Sept. 07 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias on Tuesday launched a large-scale campaign of arrests in Abyan province, southern Yemen.
Local sources confirmed that dozens of members of the “Security Belt Forces'” raided a large number of houses in the coastal district of Ahwar, east of the province, on charges of pursuing those involved in al-Qaeda attack that targeted a security check point in the directorate.
The sources explained that the elements arrested more than 20 people, most of them citizens affiliated with the Islah party, noting that they were taken to an unknown location.
The arrest campaign comes a few hours after an armed attack by al-Qaeda elements on a security post in the Ahwar, central district, left more than 36 people dead and wounded.
