Former Lebanese ambassador announces her candidacy for presidency

BEIRUT, Aug. 30 (YPA) – The former Lebanese ambassador to Jordan, Tracy Chamoun, announced on Monday her candidacy for the Lebanese presidential elections, in the first official candidacy for the elections scheduled after two months.

Chamoun said in a press conference: “Lebanon is at a crossroads, and I do not need to mention the series of calamities that have befallen us during the past years. We have all been victims of political decisions that have worsened our problems due to internal strife and narrow political agendas.”

“Out of my jealousy for Lebanon and the Lebanese, I humbly came to dedicate myself to your service and to the service of Lebanon by announcing my candidacy for the presidency,” she added.

Chamoun pointed out that she would work to “find common denominators among all political forces with the aim of neutralizing Lebanon from external conflicts and releasing the people’s families from sterile internal quarrels.”

She affirmed her adherence to the sovereignty and independence of Lebanon and the development of a well-defined defense strategy, noting that “this issue is not dealt with by defiance, bullying and external bets.”

It is noteworthy that the term of current President Michel Aoun ends on October 31, 2022, after he was elected President of Lebanon in 2016, in which he ended a presidential vacuum that lasted 29 months.
