UN announces extension of Yemen armistice for 2 additional months

SANAA, Aug. 02 (YPA) – The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced on Tuesday that it was agreed to extend the armistice in Yemen for two additional months, according to the same conditions of the truce.

“I will intensify my efforts with the two parties to reach an agreement on a regular mechanism of salary payment,” the UN envoy said in a statement.

Grundberg explained that the expanded truce proposal would allow for the opening of roads and the conduct of more travel destinations to Sanaa airport, and the provision of fuel and its regular flow to the port of Hodeida.

He added that he would intensively engage with the parties to ensure the full implementation of the truce, including the full number of flights and their regularity to the agreed destinations, as well as the number of fuel ships.

It is noteworthy that the two-month truce that was agreed upon under the auspices of the United Nations began in early April, and has been extended for two months, ending today, August 2.
