US moves in Marib aim at military escalation in Yemen

MARIB, June. 29 (YPA) – The US ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin, arrived on Wednesday to the oil-rich city of Marib, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition, as part of the US hostile moves in Yemen under the pretext of “fighting terrorism.”

The US embassy said on Twitter that Fagin arrived in Marib and met with a member of the Riyadh-formed Presidential Council and the governor loyal to the Saudi-backed Islah party in the city, Sultan Al-Arada.

The US embassy said that the ambassador expressed his country’s commitment to joint efforts in combating terrorism and discussing the humanitarian truce in Yemen.

Observers considered the US ambassador’s movements to the city of Marib, after his visit during the past two days to Hadramout province, have aimed at military escalation, as part of Washington’s efforts to preserve oil and gas sources.

Some other observers read the arrival of ambassador Fagin to Marib came also to market the illusions repeated by his country that it is the only savior from the chaos of terrorism, which its intelligence manufactures to complete its strategic plans by controlling Yemen’s natural wealth and expanding the establishment of military bases under various pretexts in the southern provinces.

The new US move towards Marib follows US arrangements to establish a military base for its forces near Al-Rayyan Airport on the Arabian Sea coast outside the city of Mukalla, the Hadramout provincial capital.
