Russian forces restore water supply route to Crimea

MOSCOW, Feb. 27 (YPA) – Russian troops have destroyed a concrete dam built in Ukraine’s Kherson Region in 2014 to cut off water to Crimea, restoring water flow to a canal linking the Dnieper River in Ukraine to Russian-annexed Crimea, said Crimean Governor Sergey Aksyonov.

Aksyonov told Novosti today that Russian Defense Ministry experts destroyed the dam, which was built under the  directives of the Ukrainian authorities in 2014 as part of its reactions to Crimea’s return to Russian sovereignty, which prevented the waters of the Dnieper River to flow to the peninsula through the North Crimean Canal.

In March 2014, Crimeans voted overwhelmingly for their region to become a part of Russia.
