Ukraine closes its ports to Russian ships

SANAA, Jan. 01 (YPA) – Ukraine’s law on inland water transport came into force starting January 1. The legislation sets forth the procedure for foreign vessels to gain access to Ukraine’s inland waters, barring Russia ships.

The law approved by Ukraine’s legislative assembly back on December 3.

The new law prohibits Russian-flagged ships from transporting passengers and goods on international roads between river ports in Ukraine.

A similar ban has been imposed for coastal freight flights in the country’s inland waters.

In addition, the law prohibits the registration of ships owned by Russian citizens in the government registry of ships in Ukraine.

The waterways of Ukraine’s inland rivers include several rivers, including the Dniester, Danube, Dnieper and a number of other rivers.
