Indian Army Chief of Staff killed in helicopter crash
NEW DELHI, Dec. 08 (YPA) – The Indian Air Force announced the death of the Indian Chief of Staff, General Bipin Rawat, in a helicopter crash on Wednesday in the south of the country.
“We report with great regret that it has been determined that the disaster resulted in the deaths of General Bipin Rawat and Madhulika Rawat (his wife) and 11 other people on board,” a statement issued by the Indian Air Force press office said.
The statement indicated that “orders were issued to open an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.”
Local media reported that Rawat’s family and aides and other officials were on board a Mi-17V5 helicopter when it crashed.
