Foreign Minister meets UN envoy
SANAA, June 3 (YPA) – Foreign Minister, Hisham Sharaf, and Deputy Foreign Minister, Hussein al-Azzi on Sunday met with the special envoy of The United Nations Secretary-General’s envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffith in capital Sanaa.
During the meeting, Sharaf explained that the Supreme Political Council and the Government of National Salvation informed the Special Envoy, during his first visit, of their support to reach a peaceful political settlement to stop the aggression.
He Confirmed that the countries of aggression have obstructed any peace efforts through the practice of all forms of international humanitarian law and human rights conventions’ violations, including the assassination of the President Saleh al-Sammad and the recent military escalation in the West Coast.
Minister Sharaf said that a peaceful political solution is the Yemeni people’s choice for sustainable peace, adding this does not mean giving up, but as the Yemeni people could of defend of homeland and fighting aggression, is capable of reaching peace if it ends the military operations and lifts the all-out siege imposed on Yemeni people since 26 March 2015
The Deputy Foreign Minister pointed out that the Yemeni people have been subjected to a brutal military aggression for four years, in which all kinds of internationally prohibited weapons were used, stressing that the hand of peace is still extended as long as there will be a just and honorable peace based on respect between neighboring countries.
In turn, Special Envoy Martin Griffith stressed that there is no military solution and the political solution is the only option that will contribute to end the humanitarian disaster suffered by the Yemeni people.
