Interior Ministry reveals circumstances of migrant shelter center fire in Sanaa

SANAA, March 20 (YPA) – The Ministry of Interior in the Salvation Government in Sanaa issued Saturday a statement on the circumstances of the incident of the migrant shelter fire in the capital Sanaa, and the results of the investigation.

The statement indicated that international organizations had published misleading statements lacking credibility to incriminate the Sanaa government and create a file of a humanitarian nature to represent a pressure tool to be added to the political and economic file to force Yemen into the US-Zionist project.

According to the statement, the ward in which the accident occurred is not a place of detention, according to what some human rights organizations have promoted, including the International Organization for Migration (IOM), rather it was a shelter center that the organization itself helped in equipping it and helps in providing food.

“The IOM’s representatives are present in the center while the ministry’s services only supervise it,” the ministry said.

The main reason that increased the loss is the lack of technical specifications or features decent to human dignity, in addition to the absence of safety means, the statement explained, noting that the competent authorities in Sanaa had informed the IOM of that in several official letters and meetings.

This belies the claim of the IOM’s Director-General that his organization does not establish, manage or supervise what he called detention centers in Yemen.

In its statement, the Interior Ministry denied the allegation of the IOM’s Director-General that the organization has provided aid of any kind, either during or after the accident.

The organization’s role was limited to a statement expressing their deep sadness, in an attempt to evade a flagrant shortcoming that was one of the causes of the tragedy, the ministry added.
