Yemeni women hardest hit by war: EU delegation

SANAA, March 09 (YPA) – The European Union (EU) delegation in Yemen said on Monday that Yemeni women are most affected by the war that has pushed the country into unimaginable suffering and devastation.

“Within two weeks, Yemen will enter the seventh year of the war that has seriously affected all Yemenis,” said Hans Grundberg, the EU ambassador to Yemen, in a statement published Monday in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

Despite their remarkable resilience and determination, Yemeni women and girls are the most affected, Grundberg added.

The EU ambassador pointed out that six years of war and the humanitarian crisis that is getting worse daily have led to more marginalization of Yemeni women and girls, stressing the urgent need to end the war.

He called on the Yemeni parties and international partners to work diligently to ensure the full and basic rights of women and their ability to contribute and participate at all levels.
