Syrian TV: US bombing targeted areas in eastern Syria

SANAA, Feb. 26 (YPA) – The US forces launched an attack at dawn on Friday on several areas in eastern Syria on the border with Iraq, Syrian state television reported.

This comes after the Pentagon confirmed that US fighter jets have carried out several raids on Iranian-backed militias in eastern Syria in response to recent attacks against US personnel in Iraq.

The Pentagon said the strikes destroyed several facilities at a border control post used by Iranian-backed militant groups.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed his confidence that the right target had been hit.

“We are sure that the target in Syria was used by the same militias that carried out the rocket attacks in Iraq,” Austin told reporters Thursday evening.
