Moscow rejects US accusations of Haftar forces’ support

SANAA, Dec. 24 (YPA) –Ministry of Russian Foreign Affairs denied on Thursday the US allegations and accusations that Moscow supported the Libyan National Army’s attack, led by Khalifa Haftar, on Tripoli city in 2019.

According to “Sputnik” news agency, Spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, said, “Since the beginning of the armed confrontation between the warring parties in Libya, Russia has actively participated in international efforts to address the Libyan crisis in various international forums.”

Thus, Zakharova has responded to the US criticism of Russia regarding the “Libyan file,” saying: ” Washington is one of the largest countries that support and participate in carrying out a blatant armed aggression” against this country.”

Zakharova noted that after these events, “the United States effectively withdrew itself for a long time from settling the crisis arising out of its mistake.”
