SANAA, Dec. 24 (YPA) – The Ethiopian government’s Human Rights Committee said that more than 100 people were killed in an armed attack, on Wednesday, in the Benishangul-Gomes region in western Ethiopia, in the latest episode of violence between rival ethnic groups in the region.
The committee said in a statement, carried by “Reuters” agency, that gunmen opened fire on people in the Bolin region in western Ethiopia and set fire to the homes of the sleeping residents.
A farmer in the town of Boleyn told “Reuters” that he saw dozens of bodies in a field near his home, while another resident of the town said that armed men stormed the area around 6:00 am (03:00 GMT) and that he counted 20 bodies in a different location.
The agency quoted an official in the region, who asked not to be identified, as saying that the authorities were informed of the attack and are verifying the details of the identities of the attackers.
