LAHJ, Oct. 18 (YPA) – A leading member of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) survived on Sunday an assassination attempt in Lahj province, southern Yemen.
A local source in the province confirmed that an armed ambush targeted Sheikh Mahdi bin Sultan al-Subaihi al-Abdali, a leader in the STC and head of the so-called “popular resistance” in Toban district, while he was returning from a festival in Al-Abdaliya area on the occasion of the October 14 Revolution.
The source explained that gunmen on a motorcycle attacked Sheikh al-Subaihi’s car by firing a hail of bullets, but Sheikh’s guard responded to the gunmen.
He added that Sheikh al-Subaihi narrowly escaped from the attack, which left no casualties.
