SHABWAH, SEpt 14 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional council (STC) militias on Sunday sent more military reinforcements towards Shabwah province, eastern Yemen.
A local source said that reinforcements arrived to the city of Zinzibar, the capital of Abyan, on their way to al-Said area south of the city of Ataq, the capital of Shabwah
The source confirmed that Saudi Arabia gave the green light to the STC to progress towards the city of Ataq, as a result of the failure to stop the escalation of Islah military escalation in the Front of Shauqrah, and its military advance in the north of Lahj province, in a plan to storm the city of Aden.
The same source pointed out that the STC is assembling its militias in the area of al-Said southern part of Ataq, and reinforcing them from the port of the Balhaf gas facility, which the UAE has turned into a military base after it was taken over at the end of 2016.
Al-Islah militants took control of the city of Ataq, after violent clashes with the “Shabwah elite” militias in August 2019.
